ISS has been developing the technology for real-time attack recognition
and response (RealSecure) for over twelve months. In collabaration with
our customers, universities, and our partners, ISS has undertaken a
significant investment in time and resources to deliver a comprehensive
tool to detect numerous kinds of attacks, only one of which is the SYN
flood. To denegrate this product as only a SYN flood detector is erroneous
and unfair. RealSecure recognizes and responds to hundreds of attacks.
ISS is a legitimate company engaged in the developement of tools to assist
networks/system administrators. ISS has no official relationship nor does
it influence what is published in Phrack, 2600, or other publications.
Further ISS had no prior knowledge of any code released for the above
publications.

ISS released the RealSecure alpha test version only after numerous
inquiries from our customers who were appraised of our developement
activity on RealSecure. We do not intend to release the product to the
market until later in the year nor is ISS requesting any monetary
consideration for use of the product. Your insinuation of some kind of
conspiracy whereby ISS profits from this by "selling a product to combat
the problem" is blatantly untrue. As you know you can test RealSecure
(tm) for free by sending email to majordomo@iss.net and within the
body of the message, type:

Your representations are both fallacious and without merit. Please don't
base your conclusions upon emotion and innuendo. RealSecure represents
the diligent work of numerous very bright engineers and your references to
the underground are inappropriate.

Thank you,
Mr. Klaus
