LOCATION:

Wollongong is the seventh largest city in Australia and is located on
the east coast of Australia, 80km south of Sydney, Australia's oldest
and largest city. June/July weather is usually sunny with daytime
temperatures around 18 degrees Celsius. Wollongong is the regional
centre of the Illawarra region, which stretches from the Royal National
Park to the north (on the southern outskirts of Sydney), the Southern
Tablelands to the west, and Nowra and the Shoalhaven River to the south.
More than 350,000 people live in this region, between the rainforested
escarpment and the Pacific Ocean surfing beaches - which makes it one of
the most picturesque landscapes in Australia. Wollongong is also a
modern industrial city, as reflected by the BHP Steelworks and associated
industries at Port Kembla, as well as major coal mines located in the
region.
